The history behind Dakshineswar :
In 1847, Rani Rasmoni established the foundation of the temple. The Great devotee Ramakrishna Paramhansa dev was the priest of this Temple.when rani went out for Benaras to visit Kali Temple, then on her way to Banaras, she saw a dream in a night where Goddess (Devi kali) mandate him that ‘no need to visit Banaras, built a temple at the bank of Hoogly river.’
As per order rani buy 81,000-meter squire plot on the bank of Hooghly. Rani spends nine hundred thousand rupees to construct the whole temple. Eight years of hard work make the temple. The traditional Bengali architecture gloom all over the temple. In 1855, The construction of the temple is finished .on 31 may in 1855 Rani Rsmani install the statue of Devi Kali in this temple. on the opening ceremony one lakh, Brahamans are invited from all over India.
In this temple compound, twelve Shiva temple is secured around the Main temple. Jagadishwari Mahakali. There is also situated a temple of Radhakrishana Beside the Main Temple.

Rani employed Ramkumar Chattopadhyay as the Chief priest of this temple. After Ramkumar, his younger brother Ramkrishana and his wife Sarada Devi takes all the accountability of this temple. Ramkrishanadev handles responsibilities till 1886.
The festival which is celebrated here is Kali Puja, Kalpataru Day, Snana Yatra.
